Congratulations to Rebecca Cox and Greg Marlow from Bishopbriggs Tennis Club who were the winners of the 2nd annual Thomas Muir Cup.
In a nail-biting final, they defeated fellow Bishopbriggs players Amy Cox and Andrew Blair 7 games to 6.
Elaine Hutchinson and Sean Gallacher were the winners of the consolation five-team Single Elimination tournament.
The cup attracted entrants from clubs throughout East Dunbartonshire including Virgin Active Milngavie, Bearsden, Lenzie and Stepps. Jimmy Watson from Huntershill Village was on hand to present the trophy to the winners.
The cup competition was launched in 2014 to help raise the profile of political reformer Thomas Muir, known as the Father of Scottish Democracy.
Club president Mark Hutchison said: “It’s a great pleasure to once again be involved in the Thomas Muir Cup. The event has quickly become a fixture in the local tennis calendar and it was great to see so many people turn out to support the teams and watch some high-quality tennis. Congratulations to Rebecca and Greg for an outstanding performance in the final.
“I’d like to thank Jimmy Watson for sponsoring this event. He has been a long-standing supporter of Thomas Muir and it’s gratifying to be able to help him raise the raise the profile of such an important historical figure through this event.
“And many thanks to Indian Restaurant Taste Bishopbriggs for providing a great buffet for our competitors.”
